Beary Birthday PartyHave a Beary Happy Birthday! InvitationsUsing a cut out shape of a bear (trace around a cookie cutter), add: You are invited to a BEARY special celebration. Join “child’s name” at his/her den (address) for a sweet time! DecorationsIf you are having all your guests join you for a teddy bear picnic, you can focus your decorations around that theme. Use plenty of checkered material for tablecloth and napkins. Add red plates and cups to complete the setting. Streamers in bright sunshine yellow, daffodil orange and sky blue will add lots of cheery color. Put a few vases of daisies in the room for a finishing touch. If your focus is on Care Bears, think lots of color. These distinct bears come in an assortment of shades and will require streamers and party ware to follow suit! For those who love Pooh, try recreating the forest with lots of green for trees and leaves. Green streamers and even green stems and garland from craft stores will help bring in the forest. Then add Pooh yellow! Plates, streamers, cups – your guest will be looking for Pooh and Tigger! For quick and easy decorating, visit Birthday Party Express and check out their complete packages of Pooh and Care Bear party supplies. FoodUsing bear-shaped cookie cutters, prepare sandwiches for your hungry guests. Other food items can include fruits and veggies, and munchies such as nuts, dried fruits, teddy graham cookies, and Gummi Bears. As for the cake – bear shaped, of course! Games and ActivitiesKeep your little cubs busy as bees with these fun and easy games: Drop the Bees in the Honey PotUsing yellow jellybeans, give each child a hand full of “bees” to drop in the honey pot and see who can make get the most bees into the jar. A decorated mayonnaise jar has just the right shape and opening size for this game. Pin the Bee on the Honey PotPurchase small fuzzy bees (can be found at local craft stores) or a bag of medium sized yellow pom-poms so that each child has a bee. Draw a large picture of a honey pot on a card board and hang it at eye level. Now blindfold your guests and give them a spin. Then let them try to place their bee in the “opening” of then honey pot. Beary Cool Refridgerator MagnetsPurchase bags of assorted-sized brown, tan, and black pom-poms (or pastel colors if you are making “Care Bears”), several sets of googly eyes, and sheets of magnet paper. All these supplies can be found at your local craft store. Construct bears by gluing a medium pom-pom on top of a large pom-pom (head to body). Next, add ears and paws made from small pom-poms, and glue eyes to head. Then, cut a thin strip of magnet paper and glue it to the back of the bear. Kids can use white glue if you have time to dry or adults can help out with a glue gun for quicker construction. Kids will be reminded of a fun day every time they reach for the juice! My Very Own Honey PotPurchase a terra cotta pot for each child and several bags of pom-pom bees from local craft stores. Have each child paint a pot with child-friendly paint and make a sign for the outside (“Honey Pot”). Paint pens work well for writing on the pot if you would rather do this than make signs. However, the paint in these pens is not child-friendly so use plenty of adult supervision and caution if you choose this method. Then glue lots of buzzing bees to the outside of the pot. Hot glue works best so have each child put a dot on their pot for each bee and let an adult finish things up. Once complete, fill these pots with goodies – lemon drops, dried frit rolls, honey sticks, Teddy Grahams and Gummy Bears! Pass the Bear Separate your guests into teams and give each team a teddy bear to use during the game. (You can substitute a balloon) Have each team form a single-file line, and give the first person in each line the bear (or balloon). When the game begins, the first person must pass the bear over his or her head to the player behind. The player who receives the bear must pass it between their legs to the next player, and so on. The pattern continues, alternating over and under, until the bear reaches the back of the line. When it reaches the last person, he or she reverses direction and the bear is passed the opposite way, from back to front. The first team to finish wins! FavorsWhether you decide to have the kids decorate their own honey pot (see above) or you provide one for them, be sure to fill them with plenty of tasty treats for your little cubs!
