Boys Sleepover Party

When it comes to a sleep over for boys, planning is the key to a successful evening. You may want to limit the number of children invited to make sure you have room for everyone to sleep.   Make sure the birthday child and their friends’ are old enough for a sleepover.  If you don’t want to serve dinner, plan on starting the party after 7:00pm.   Making sure everyone understands the house rules at the beginning of the night will make a more enjoyable party for the guests and the adults.

Invitations

Cut sleeping bag shapes out of card stock.  Make a place for a removable paper pillow that can have list all of the details.   Make sure you remind the guests to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, PJ’s, and any personal care items that they will need (i.e. a stuffed animal, tooth paste, tooth brush, hair brush).

Decorations

Streamers, garlands, balloons, and a Happy Birthday sign can be used to decorate the room that the guests will be sleeping in. Arrange their sleeping bags in a circular pattern, so that everyone's heads are facing in towards the center of the circle. This makes it easier for guests to talk and will minimize the problem of who sleeps next to whom.

Food

If the party starts early, you will need to provide dinner.  Allow the children to make their own individual pizzas.  Using either English muffins or pre-cooked individual pizza dough set out sauce, cheese, pepperoni or any other topping the children will enjoy.  Place the pizzas in the oven and bake at 350 degrees until the cheese is melted.

Make sure you have plenty of snacks to offer throughout the evening.  Set up an ice cream bar so guests can make their own sundae or floats to enjoy with the cake.  (cake recipe) Offer vanilla or chocolate ice cream and various toppings such as flavored syrups, crushed candy or cookies, fresh fruit and whipped cream along with different flavored sodas for a float.  Later in the evening, set up a popcorn bar.  After popping the popcorn, offer different topping such as cinnamon and sugar, raisins, mini M&M’s, melted butter, pizza seasoning, and parmesan cheese.

For breakfast set up a buffet which includes cereal, donuts, bagels, fruit, milk and juice.  This will make an easy meal for a tired bunch of people including the parents.

Games & Activities

Scavenger or Treasure Hunt

Whether in your house, back yard or around the neighborhood, a scavenger hunt or treasure hunt is sure to be a blast.  Plan the list of things to find around the birthday child’s interest.  For example if he is interested in building, have the guests search for building supplies such as nails, screws, wood, hammers, etc.  If the interest is sports, look for a baseball card, a baseball, a football, a shoelace, a wheel from a roller blade, etc.  The list can also be generic things such as a dog bone, a newspaper, a pen, a napkin, a baseball card, a computer disc, etc.  Once the list is established, divide into teams of 2-4 players and let the searching begin.  The team that returns first with all of the items needed is the winner.

Board Games

Offer various board games for 2-6 players such as Checkers, Connect Four, Monopoly, Chess, Life, Scrabble, Boggle, and Yahtzee.  Allow them to play in one large or smaller groups depending on interest.

Video Games

Ask each guest to bring their own personal video game such as a Game Boy and have contests to see which player can get the highest score in a certain time.  Also allow the boys to trade games so they can try their hand at playing other games.

Pillow Fight

A scheduled pillow fight can be the last high-energy activity. Make sure the breakables are hidden and let them turn loose on each other with the pillows. Hopefully, this crazy fun will knock some of the steam out of them.

Wind Down

Once everyone is in their PJ’s, allow for time to play a card game or share trading cards.  Play a video that will interest everyone.  Weather it is a new release or a classic oldie it is a great way to have everyone relax and unwind.  Once it is time for lights off have enough flashlights for the guests to use to tell ghost stories. Mom or dad can start the story and the rest of the group can take turns adding to it.

Favors

The favors can be the things that were found on the treasure hunt or small items that relate to the boys interests such as trading cards, flashlights, balls, and music.
