Circus PartyThere will be plenty of clowning around, but there’s no need to worry about your house turning into a three-ringed circus! This party is fun-tastic for kids of ages. Invitation Attach your invitation to a box of animal crackers and add: Ladies and Gentlemen. You are hereby invited to the greatest show on earth featuring CHILD’S NAME on center stage. Decorations Let your imagination run wild! Think vivid, bold, and bright! Balloons, streamers, banners, and curling ribbon will help set the stage. Fill large vases with multi-colored cotton candy on a stick for centerpieces. Attach balloons and large crepe paper flowers to pipe cleaner stems and place as arrangements around the room. The goal is to spread color to every corner of the room. Games and Activities Begin with a round of face painting or provide clown noses so everyone fits in with the theme. Next, design a Clown Hat. Purchase ready made, plain party hats and set out lots of goodies for your guests to use to decorate their hat. Provide items such as ribbons, buttons, glitter, stickers, and fabric swatches. Then it’s time for the games:
Monkey Munch Give each child half a banana. Then have them peal and eat it using only one hand.
Animal Scavenger Hunt Hide a bunch of stuffed animals around the room and send the kids on a friendly hunt.
Pin the Nose on the Clown Cut out and color in a large clown face. Give each child a red dot and have them try to pin the nose on the clown.
Balloon Relay Divide the group into two teams and have them line up. Set up a bunch of stuffed animals in a row with a box of inflated balloons at the end. When you say go, the first person from each team has to weave through the animals, pick up a balloon from the box, weave back to their team, sit on the balloon until it pops, and tag the next team mate. The first team to send all its players through the line wins.
If you would rather leave the entertainment to a professional, consider hiring a clown. Most bring their own games and activities such as face painting, magic tricks, balloon animals, and more. In addition, you can also bring the circus to your house by renting a moonwalk, popcorn machine, snow cone machine, and cotton candy maker.
Food Large bowls of popcorn, peanuts, and M & M’s placed on colorful tablecloths will feed your clowns and decorate your house at the same time. For the main course serve hot dogs and corn dogs with plenty of soda. (If all that sugar makes you nervous, make your own soda by mixing concentrated fruit juice with club soda.) If creating a clown cake sounds too complicated, a cake adorned with curling ribbon, plastic balloons, and bright sprinkles will fit right in. And to finish off the meal, offer your guests ice cream or candy apples. Favors It’s your turn to be a clown - hand out bags with squirt rings, paddle ball games, stickers, bouncy balls, bubbles, animal crackers, and goofy glasses.
