Cowboy/Cowgirl Party

Every child wants to be a cowboy or cowgirl at one time in their life.  The following party idea will make the birthday child and the guests feel like real cowboys or cowgirls.

Invitations       

A "Wanted Poster" party invitation is sure to rustle the cowboys & cowgirls to the party. Use a piece of parchment paper and write the birthday party information for each guest.  Burn the edges to get a real effect.  Also available are pre-printed invitations from Birthday Express. (Spirit or prancing pony)

Decorations

Bales of hay are a great way to get a cowboy feel for your party area.  Spread some hay on the path for your arriving guests. Red & White checked tablecloths with additional hay sprinkled on the tables would make it more authentic. Country music is must for the background.  Balloons will add the final touch for this birthday celebration.

Games & Activities         

A great way for the guests to feel like real cowboys and cowgirls is to hire a pony for pony rides.

Stomp the Snakes

Stomp the Snakes is a fun games to entertain the cowboys & cowgirls.  Get the long skinny balloons clowns usually use to make animals out of and blow up about 100 of them. Lay them on the ground and have the "wranglers" stomp them until they are all popped!

There's a Snake In My Boot

Another fun game the kids will love.  You will need 2 adult cowboy boots and at least 20 vinyl snakes (Oriental Trading). Two children stand on a bale of hay with a cowboy boot in front of them. Give each child 10 snakes and see which one can get more into the boot.

Paper bag vests are a fun craft to have the cowboys & cowgirls make.  Supply each child with one grocery store paper bag.  Cut out a vest for each child and have them decorate it with stickers and makers.

A horse shaped piñatas and line dancing with country music are other activities the children will enjoy.

Food

Real cowboys and cowgirls always like to eat hot dogs, hamburgers & baked beans.  The Prancing Pony Cake is a fun easy to make cake that all the guests will love.  Find this and other Birthday Cake Recipes

Favors

The party favors for this theme can be used during the party. Upon arrival at the cowboy/cowgirl’s corral give each guest a cowboy hat, bandana, sheriff’s badge, a harmonica and a water squirt gun.  Additional goodies can include chocolate gold coins, a rubber snake, a plastic miniature horse, and plastic handcuffs. Make sure you provide each child a place to keep their favors when not in use so you don’t have cowboys/cowgirls who lost their gear.
