Game Sleepover Party
Whether it’s for a boy or a girl, any child will love a overnight party full of fun and games! You may want to limit the number of children invited to make sure you have room for everyone to sleep. Make sure the birthday child and their friends’ are old enough for a sleepover. If you don’t want to serve dinner, plan on starting the party after 7:00pm. Making sure everyone understands the house rules at the beginning of the night will make a more enjoyable party for the guests and the adults.
Invitations Cut sleeping bag shapes out of card stock. Make a place for a removable paper pillow that can have list all of the details. Make sure you remind the guests to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, PJ’s, and any personal care items that they will need (i.e. a stuffed animal, tooth paste, tooth brush, hair brush). Decorations Streamers, garlands, balloons, and a Happy Birthday sign can be used to decorate the room that the guests will be sleeping in. Arrange their sleeping bags in a circular pattern, so that everyone's heads are facing in towards the center of the circle. This makes it easier for guests to talk and will minimize the problem of who sleeps next to whom. Food If the party starts early, you will need to provide dinner. Allow the children to make their own individual pizzas. Using either English muffins or pre-cooked individual pizza dough set out sauce, cheese, pepperoni or any other topping the children will enjoy. Place the pizzas in the oven and bake at 350 degrees until the cheese is melted. Make sure you have plenty of snacks to offer throughout the evening. Set up an ice cream bar so guests can make their own sundae to enjoy with the cake. Offer vanilla or chocolate ice cream and various toppings such as flavored syrups, crushed candy or cookies, fresh fruit and whipped cream. Later in the evening, set up a popcorn bar. After popping the popcorn, offer different topping such as cinnamon and sugar, raisins, mini M&M’s, melted butter, pizza seasoning, and parmesan cheese. For breakfast set up a buffet which includes cereal, donuts, bagels, fruit, milk and juice. This will make an easy meal for a tired bunch of people including the parents. Games & Activities Board Games Offer various board games for 2-6 players such as Checkers, Connect Four, Monopoly, Chess, Life, Scrabble, Boggle, and Yahtzee. Allow them to play in one large or smaller groups depending on interest.
Cards Set out several decks of playing cards and challenge the guests to Rummy, Poker, Black Jack, Crazy 8, etc. If the group of guests is interested in trading cards, ask them to bring their collection to the party. Make a game out of who can find certain cards in their deck the quickest. Offer a new trading card as a prize for the person who finds each one the quickest. Also, you can allow for time to have the guests battle or trade their trading cards. Video Games Ask each guest to bring their own personal video game such as a Game Boy and have contests to see which player can get the highest score in a certain time. Also allow the guests to share games so they can try their hand at playing other games.
Bingo Create Bingo game cards with words that match the interest of the birthday child. Small pieces of candy, such as M&M’s or Skittles, make great markers, which can be eaten after the game.
Charades Make a list of words, such as movie or song titles, animals, sports, or vehicles, which each guest will pick from to act out. All of the other guests have to guess what they are acting out. The person who guesses correctly gets the next turn.
Win, Loose, or Draw Divide the group into two teams. Make a list of items that each group will have to pick secretly and draw. On a large white dry erase board each team takes turn drawing something for their own team to guess. If their team guesses it correctly they get a point and continue. If they cannot guess the answer, the other team gets a chance to guess. If they get it correct they get a point and a turn to draw for their own team. The team with the most points is the winner.
Scavenger or Treasure Hunt Whether in your house, back yard or around the neighborhood, a scavenger hunt or treasure hunt is sure to be a blast. Plan the list of things to find around the birthday child’s interest. For example if he is interested in building, have the guests search for building supplies such as nails, screws, wood, hammers, etc. If the interest is beauty, look for a make-up brush, a Q-tip, a cotton ball, lipstick, nail polish, etc. The list can also be generic things such as a dog bone, a newspaper, a pen, a napkin, a baseball card, a computer disc, etc. Once the list is established, divide into teams of 2-4 players and let the searching begin. The team that returns first with all of the items needed is the winner.
Wind Down Play a video that will interest everyone. Weather it is a new release or a classic oldie it is a great way to have everyone relax and unwind. Once it is time for lights off have enough flashlights for the guests to use to tell ghost stories. Mom or dad can start the story and the rest of the group can take turns adding to it.
Favors Favors can include a deck of cards, a small travel sized game or a set of jacks.
