Make Up Slumber Party

A night of beauty will make a great memory for your child and her friends.  With the right preparation you will have the children so busy they will fall asleep like the angels they look like.  At a sleepover party, you may want to limit the number of children invited to make sure you have room for everyone to sleep.   Make sure the birthday child and their friends’ are old enough for a sleepover.  If you don’t want to serve dinner, plan on starting the party after 7:00pm.

Invitations

Cut sleeping bag shapes out of card stock.  Make a place for a removable paper pillow that can list all of the details.   Make sure you remind the guests to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, PJ’s, and any personal care items that they will need (i.e. a stuffed animal, tooth paste, tooth brush, hair brush).

Decorations

Create a spa feeling by setting up different stations throughout your house.  You will want to have a location for the guests to get their hair done, a manicure and pedicure, and make-up application.  Play relaxing music, have the lights dimmed and if an adult will be in the room at all times, light candles.  Place various teen beauty magazines near each station for the guest to look at while they are waiting for treatment.

Food

If the party starts early, you will need to provide dinner.  Offer finger sandwiches and fresh carrots and fruit slices.  You can also have the children to make their own individual pizzas.  Using either English muffins or pre-cooked individual pizza dough set out sauce, cheese, pepperoni or any other topping the children will enjoy.

Make sure you have plenty of snacks to offer throughout the evening.  Set up an ice cream bar so guests can make their own sundae to enjoy with the cake.  (cake recipe) Offer vanilla or chocolate ice cream and various toppings such as flavored syrups, crushed candy or cookies, fresh fruit and whipped cream. Later in the evening, set up a popcorn bar.  After popping the popcorn, offer different topping such as cinnamon and sugar, raisins, mini M&M’s, melted butter, pizza seasoning, and parmesan cheese.

For breakfast set up a buffet which includes cereal, donuts, bagels, fruit, milk and juice.  This will make an easy meal for a tired bunch of people including the parents.

Games & Activities

Start the evening by taking a “before” picture of each guest then make sure you take another one after all of the beauty activities are complete. If you use a Polaroid camera the guests will be able to take the photo home the next morning.   Have each guest grab a partner and take turns at each station or have enough adults to “man” each station.  This will allow all the guests to enjoy the pampering.   Following are the supplies needed at each station:

Hair

Brush/comb (for sanitation purposes make sure you have a different comb or brush for each guest)

Hot rollers

Curling iron

Hairspray/spritz

Hair gel

Hair bands, barrettes, hairpins

Hair wraps can also be great fun for this station.

Makeup mirror

Eye shadow - an assortment of colors

Eyeliner

Eyebrow pen

Mascara

Blush

Powder

Lip liner

Lipstick an assortment of colors

Be sure to have cold cream on hand to remove make up before going to sleep.

Once the guests are finished being pampered set up an area where they can dance and sing with a boom box and karaoke machine.  When it is time to settle down, play a movie to help everyone relax.

Favors

Provide each guest with their own make-up, nail polish, and hair accessories to take home.  Place these items in a small purse and make sure you give them their photos.
