Train Birthday Party
InvitationsA cut out of a train makes an eye-catching invitation, but if this gets too complicated or time consuming, a red paper framed in black railroad tracks also works great. Add: All Aboard! It’s time to celebrate “child’s name” Birthday! The fun takes place at “your last name” Station. Please meet us at track # “your address”. Another option is to issue each guest a “Boarding Pass” with his/her name, time, date and seat number. DecorationsThere are plenty of “Thomas the Tank” decorations and accessories available at “Birthday Party Express”. But you can also set the tone with lots of red and black streamers and party wear. Use a red table clothe and draw a railroad track place setting for each guest. Games and Activities Musical Choo ChooThis games is played just like musical chairs except that when your guest walk with the music, they have to move their arms like a train chugging and make the “choo choo” sound as they go. A fun song to use for this game is “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” or you can play the “Thomas the Tank” soundtrack. Pin the Caboose or Engine on the TrainLittle conductors will have fun playing this version of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”. Be sure to use an Engineer’s bandana to cover little eyes! Train Station Freeze DanceHave all the little passengers get up and move their cabooses to the “Thomas” tunes. But when the conductor blows his/her whistle, everyone must come to a screeching halt! Those caught still moving are sent to sit in the train yard while the rest of the passengers play on until the last, winning passenger is left. Lump-of-Coal TossThis version of bean bag toss is played with black bean bags (coal) and a cardboard box that has been decorate to resemble the coal car of a train. Each engineer gets a chance to fill the car with as many lumps of coal as possible. FoodA great way to feed AND entertain your little conductors is to let everyone decorate his/her own train car! Give the guests their own piece of rectangular cake. You can set out several different colors of frosting so that everyone can select their own color or make to things a bit easier (and less messy), have the pieces already frosted. Provide lots of edible decorations such as licorice strings, M & M’s, gum drops, sprinkles, and Oreo cookies for wheels. Supplement all this sugar with some health fruit, pretzels, and sandwiches, and your passengers will have enough energy to chug on to the next station! FavorsSend each little conductor on his/her way with a bandana and whistle. Add a “Thomas the Tank” book, stickers, coloring book, and some goodies and you’ll your guests leaving with a smile.
