FAIRYTALE

Your little princess will be delighted to spend time in her own castle.

 Walls:

Look for a wallpaper pattern that resembles bricks or stone.  Use this to erect the castle walls in your child’s room.  This can be done on one accent wall or all walls if but be sure to test things first so the effect is not overpowering.  Next, attach a trellis to the wall with a nail gun.  Then decorate the trellis with silk flower vines and garland.

If your wall stops before it reaches the ceiling, paint the rest of the wall blue mimic the sky.  Add clouds by sponge-painting a mixture of blues and white paint in small circles.  To give your clouds a little shimmer, scoop up some glitter onto the end of a straw and gently blow onto the clouds before the paint has dried.  Be very careful not to inhale!

Accessories:

To dress up this room try some of these ideas:  Use the wire star garland, flower garland, or vines to drape over curtains, around bedposts and to trim windows.  Hang a tiara from a bedpost or use as finials for your curtain rod.  Add jewels to the room by gluing rhinestones to the top and/or bottom of the lampshade.

Bedding:

The royal bedding should be full and fluffy.  A bed skirt, pillow shams, and fluffy comforter are a must for your little princess.  You can go with the traditional royal jewel tones and diamond patterns or create a softer look with flower prints.   To really create a fairytale mood, create a canopy to match the bedding and window treatment.

Window Treatment and Shelving:

The window treatment will need to coordinate with the bedding.  If your have chosen a bold jewel-toned pattern, consider using solid curtains.  If you are taking a softer approach, check out the bridal section of you fabric store for a great selection of window treatment fabrics.  For a royal effect, try draping (in several swags) the curtain material over a curtain rod with fancy finials.

In General:

Props and decorations for this room can be found in Halloween supply stores/catalogues and also in the dress-up sections of discount stores.   Depending on your child’s wishes, this room can be decorated with a traditional royal look or a more fairytale approach.  Either way, your little girl will feel like she’s queen of the castle in this special room.
