Back to Kids Rooms Themes and Ideas Rain Forest This adventurous theme truly inspires the imagination and is very easy to accomplish. Walls: For the look of a rainforest, paint
walls tan or green or light blue.
Many rainforest and jungle borders and fabrics are available to
compliment this theme. You can easily paint murals of
jungle trees and vines that climb walls using different shades of
greens. Add jungles animals
to the walls. Include
macaws, frogs, and monkeys. A great book to help get you started is Draw
Rainforest Animals Step by Step by Doug DuBosque.
To add a 3-D aspect, a rope ladder on the ceiling or wall can be
used to hang stuffed animals such as snakes, birds and monkeys.
Giant silk butterflies and dragon flies add to the rainforest
atmosphere. Accessories: Bedding: Deep inside a rainforest your child will need a leafy bedspread or one which displays jungle animals. Use coordinating fabric to make themed pillows Window Treatments
and Shelving: Border your windows with painted or silk vines. Use coordinating fabric to create valances for this theme. Try using branches as curtain rods. Trim old bookcases with bamboo (just split bamboo lengthwise and glue it on). Put finishing touches on your theme by placing stuffed animals on. Add hooks in animal shapes to hang binoculars and other jungle gear. Artwork: Add a cork board cut into shapes of frogs, birds or other jungle animals to the walls from which your child can hang artwork. Cork can be purchased in squares from most home decorating stores. Special touches, such as child’s artwork, make a room. Have your child draw pictures of jungle to frame and hang on the walls. In General: Encourage neatness and organization with safe, easy-to-use storage like a three tier, three section basket system. Plastic drawer dividers add extra sorting options for crayons and small toys. Involve your child in the process and create a kid’s room your whole family will love!
