Back to Kids Rooms Themes and Ideas

Rustic Cabin

Kids love to go camping.  Fishing, hiking, exploring and being outdoors will give you lots of ideas for this theme!

Walls:

For the look of a rustic cabin, paint walls tan or forest green.   Many rustic borders and fabrics are available to compliment this theme including fish, bears, moose, etc.  Paint a window on one wall looking out into a woodland scene, or paint one entire wall as the woodland scene by  Painting trees, bears, or a lake.  To add a 3-D aspect, place a silk Christmas tree in one corner.

Accessories:

Bedding:

Picture yourself in a snug log cabin, deep in the woods with only an occasional moose, bear or wolf, and the ducks on the lake for company.  Many rustic bed frames are available to compliment this theme, or use your own bed and accessorize it with a plaid comforter and sheets.  Domestications has an awesome quilt with bold patch print in brown, green and cream, green-corded all around, and backed with a bold coordinating plaid.

Window Treatments and Shelving:

Use coordinating fabric to create valances for this theme. Try using branches as curtain rods or shutters for window decorations. Put finishing touches on your theme by using stuffed animals-bears, chipmunks, raccoons- on bookcases.  Place pinecones your child has collected in on rustic looking shelves.  Hang a fishing pole on the walls and place a bear skin rug next to your child’s bed.  An old camp trunk for storage compliments this theme nicely.

Artwork:

Special touches, such as child’s artwork, make a room.   Have your child draw pictures of woodland animals or freshwater fish for the walls.  Frame them in rustic looking frames.  Hang a picture of your child in the woods or on a campout.

In General:

Encourage neatness and organization with safe, easy-to-use storage like a three tier, three section basket system.   Plastic drawer dividers add extra sorting options for crayons and small toys.

Involve your child in the process and create a kid’s room your whole family will love!
